Benghazi – Saturday, 20 December 2025 The headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan Government received, on Saturday morning in the city of Benghazi, Mr. Moussa Taher, Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Niger to Libya, during his meeting with the Director of the African Affairs Department at the Ministry, H.E. Ambassador Abdulsalam Al-Raqi‘i. This visit comes within the framework of official coordination and preparations for the opening of two consulates of the Republic of Niger, the first in the city of Benghazi and the second in the city of Sabha, reflecting the keenness of both sides to enhance consular work and to develop bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries across various fields. An official meeting was held at the Ministry’s headquarters, attended by the Director of the African Affairs Department, the Acting Director of the Consular Affairs Department, and the Director of the Protocol Department. During the meeting, the organizational and technical aspects related to the procedures for opening the two consulates were discussed. The meeting addressed a number of issues, including setting the dates for the arrival of the diplomatic mission to the cities of Benghazi and Sabha, completing the approved procedures, and providing the necessary facilities to enable the two consulates to commence their duties in an optimal manner. The participants emphasized the importance of supporting and strengthening bilateral cooperation between Libya and the Republic of Niger, following up on the conditions of the Libyan and Nigerien communities in both countries, and working to overcome any difficulties they may face, while underscoring the continuation of coordination and communication on various issues of mutual interest. This meeting comes as part of the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to strengthen African relations and to develop frameworks for diplomatic and consular cooperation with sisterly countries, in a manner that serves the common interests of both nations. This visit followed the meeting held on 29 November between H.E. Dr. Abdulhadi Al-Huwaij, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan Government, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Niger, Mr. Bakary Sangaré.
