The seventeenth edition of the MEDays International Forum concluded on Saturday evening in the Moroccan city of Tangier. The event was held under the theme “Divisions and Polarizations: Reinventing the Global Equation” and under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. A number of heads of state, senior officials, and decision-makers participated in the forum, including His Excellency Dr. Abdulhadi Al-Hwaij, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan government. Throughout the four-day forum, His Excellency conducted intensive diplomatic activities, holding a series of high-level meetings with officials and policymakers from Africa and Europe. In this context, His Excellency was received by His Excellency President Adama Barrow of the Republic of The Gambia. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand political and economic cooperation. The meeting was also attended by Gambian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Serign Modou Njie. His Excellency also held an extensive meeting with Mr. Leonard She Okitundu, Deputy Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and former Minister of Foreign Affairs. The talks focused on prospects for advancing political, parliamentary, and institutional cooperation. Similarly, during his meeting with Mr. Martin Ziguele, Member of the Central African Republic’s Parliament and former Prime Minister, His Excellency discussed ways to enhance mutual cooperation and explore new partnership opportunities between the two countries. His Excellency also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of São Tomé and Príncipe, Ms. Elsa Maria dos Santos Amado Vaz, where both sides discussed potential avenues to activate bilateral cooperation across several areas of common interest. On the sidelines of the forum, Dr. Al-Hwaij held talks with Belgian Minister of State Mr. André Flahaut, which focused on prospects for Libyan–Belgian cooperation. A separate bilateral meeting was also held with Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. James Gyakye Quayson, to discuss ways to strengthen joint relations. His Excellency also met with the Prime Minister of Grenada, Mr. Dickon Mitchell, who affirmed his country’s keen interest in strengthening relations and cooperation with Libya. The series of meetings concluded with a session between His Excellency and Niger’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Bakary Sangaré, who announced his country’s decision to open two new consulates in Benghazi and Sebha—reflecting the strength of bilateral relations and Niger’s desire to enhance its consular presence and develop cooperation with Libya. His Excellency Dr. Al-Hwaij’s participation in MEDays 2025 served as a valuable opportunity to reinforce Libya’s diplomatic presence, strengthen engagement with regional and international partners, and advance national interests through enhanced cooperation with the African and global community.
