Benghazi – Wednesday, 29 April 2026 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan Government organized the sixth Political Salon titled “Historical Memory in Support of National Constants: The Qardabiyah Battle as a Model,” held at the Peace Center for Studies and Research in the vicinity of the Shrine of Sheikh of Martyrs Omar Al-Mukhtar in the city of Benghazi, coinciding with the 111th anniversary of the historic Battle of Qardabiyah. The organization of this salon comes as a commemoration of one of the most prominent national milestones in Libya’s history, where the Battle of Qardabiyah represented a unique model of national unity. Libyans from various regions and cities came together as one front in defense of the الوطن (homeland) against the Italian colonial occupation, offering the highest meanings of sacrifice and devotion. In this context, the Ministry emphasized that drawing inspiration from this historical memory reflects its commitment to consolidating shared national values and strengthening awareness of the importance of unity and national cohesion, considering them fundamental pillars for protecting state sovereignty and preserving stability. The Ministry also stressed that this occasion represents a renewed call to recall the spirit of solidarity embodied by the forefathers and ancestors, and to translate it into the present reality in a way that contributes to building a unified and secure state based on the principles of dignity, freedom, social justice, and the rule of law. It further affirmed that Libya, while drawing inspiration from its glorious history, aspires to consolidate its position as a stable and peaceful state within its Maghreb, Arab, African, and international environment, in a way that fulfills the aspirations of its people for security, development, and prosperity.
