Benghazi – Thursday, 16 April 2026 His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan Government, Dr. Abdulhadi Al-Hweij, received this afternoon at the Ministry’s headquarters in the city of Benghazi Mr. Raad Al-Hadid, Head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Mission in Libya. The meeting took place within the framework of following up humanitarian cooperation between the two sides and enhancing joint coordination in the field of relief work. The discussions focused on ways to further develop coordination mechanisms with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the Mission’s programs in Libya, particularly support for Sudanese displaced persons, the organization of medical and relief convoys, and contributions to voluntary return programs for those wishing to return to their countries, in addition to providing medical screenings for irregular migrants, thereby strengthening the humanitarian dimension in addressing various cases. During the meeting, the official opening of the IFRC Mission office in Benghazi was announced, as part of the implementation of the agreement signed between the Libyan Government and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and in a way that enhances the localization of international organizations’ work and expands the scope of their humanitarian interventions within the country. The two sides also discussed the latest developments in the regional situation in the Middle East and their potential implications for Libya. The Head of Mission expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in facilitating the work of international organizations and supporting their humanitarian programs. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry’s Department of International Organizations, the Benghazi Protocol Office, the Minister’s Office, as well as the Humanitarian Liaison Officer of the Mission. At the conclusion of the meeting, His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation praised the role of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in the fields of emergency response and rapid intervention, affirming that cooperation with the local partner, foremost among them the Libyan Red Crescent, remains a key priority in supporting humanitarian efforts within the Libyan state.
