Benghazi – Thursday, 16 April 2026 His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan Government, Dr. Abdulhadi Al-Hweij, received at the Ministry’s headquarters in the city of Benghazi, the Consul General of the State of Palestine, Mr. Imad Al-Deen Al-Attili, along with his accompanying delegation. During the meeting, both sides exchanged welcoming remarks and reaffirmed the deep fraternal relations between the Libyan and Palestinian peoples, as well as their mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation and joint coordination. The discussions addressed the situation of the Palestinian community residing in Libya, reviewing the أبرز challenges and difficulties they face, and exploring appropriate solutions in coordination with the relevant authorities. The two sides also discussed ongoing preparations for organizing the Palestinian community elections scheduled to take place in the coming period, in a manner that ensures effective democratic representation reflecting the aspirations of the community members. The meeting also touched upon the decision issued by the Prime Minister regarding the treatment of members of the Palestinian community residing in Libya on par with Libyan citizens, emphasizing the importance of coordination with the concerned الجهات to implement this decision across all relevant procedures. His Excellency the Minister stressed the importance of selecting community representatives based on clear and transparent criteria, ensuring stability within the community and responsible representation. The meeting was attended by Ambassador Mohammed Al-Zaidi, Director of the Strategic Planning Office at the Ministry, and Mr. Adel Al-Farsi, Director of the Benghazi Protocol Office.
