Benghazi – Wednesday | April 1, 2026 His Excellency Dr. Abdulhadi Al-Hweij, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan Government, held an official meeting in the city of Benghazi with the diplomatic envoy tasked with following up on the procedures for opening the Consulate General of the Russian Federation and the Russian House, Mr. Alexander, as well as the Director of the Russian House, Mr. Nikita. The meeting took place within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the two friendly countries. The discussions reviewed the organizational and procedural arrangements related to the opening of the Consulate General and the Russian House in Benghazi, aiming to enhance diplomatic representation, facilitate consular services, and strengthen cultural and scientific cooperation between both sides. The two parties also discussed several joint initiatives, most notably the proposal to establish a Libyan House in Moscow, which would strengthen Libya’s cultural presence in the Russian capital and open broader horizons for cultural communication and knowledge exchange, within the framework of the growing historical relations between the two friendly peoples. The meeting further addressed ways to develop economic cooperation in priority sectors, as well as enhancing partnership in educational and commercial fields, and exploring new investment opportunities in a manner that supports mutual interests and meets the requirements of the next phase. The Minister reaffirmed Libya’s commitment to strengthening its relations with the Russian Federation and enhancing bilateral cooperation frameworks in a way that supports development and stability efforts, while consolidating balanced partnerships based on mutual interests. For his part, the Russian side expressed its interest in deepening cooperation with Libya, affirming its readiness to proceed with the implementation of joint initiatives, reflecting the strength of bilateral relations and serving the aspirations of both countries.
