Bissau – 13 March 2026 In a Ramadan atmosphere reflecting the spirit of solidarity and fraternity among peoples, H.E. Dr. Abdulhadi Al-Hweij, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan Government, hosted a Ramadan Iftar banquet in the capital Bissau of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. The event took place as part of his official visit to the country and aimed at strengthening bonds of brotherhood and cooperation between the Libyan and Bissau-Guinean peoples. The Iftar was held at the Al-Salam Mosque in the capital, with the participation of several senior officials and prominent religious and social figures in the country. Among the attendees were H.E. Mr. João Bernardo Vieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities, as well as the High Commissioner for Hajj, Umrah and Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Anfali Kuti, in addition to a number of religious leaders and scholars. A number of Libyan scholars and preachers residing in Guinea-Bissau also participated in the Iftar, in a scene that reflects the depth of religious and cultural ties between the two countries, and highlights the importance of exchanging expertise and strengthening communication between religious institutions in Libya and Guinea-Bissau. In his remarks during the occasion, Minister Al-Hweij emphasized that this initiative stems from Islamic values that call for brotherhood, solidarity, and mutual support, as well as from the deep historical relations linking Libya with African countries. He noted that organizing this Ramadan Iftar aims to enhance bridges of human and cultural communication between the two friendly peoples. For his part, the Foreign Minister of Guinea-Bissau expressed his appreciation for this Libyan initiative, affirming that the gathering embodies the spirit of brotherhood and rapprochement between the two countries, and reflects the commitment of both leaderships to developing bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation across various fields. The event was marked by an atmosphere of warmth and goodwill among the attendees, who exchanged Ramadan greetings and expressed their wishes for peace and prosperity for the peoples of Africa and the Islamic world.
