Bissau – 14 March 2026 Concluding his official visit to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, and reaffirming the strategic attention given by the Libyan leadership represented by the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Belqasim Haftar, and the Prime Minister Dr. Osama Hamad, H.E. Dr. Abdulhadi Al-Huwaij, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, accompanied by the High Commissioner for Islamic Affairs in Guinea-Bissau, Sheikh Anfali Kuti, laid the foundation stone for the “Omar Al-Mukhtar” Mosque in the capital, Bissau. This initiative reflects the fraternal and historical ties between the two countries and strengthens religious and cultural cooperation between Libya and Guinea-Bissau. In his speech, Minister Al-Huwaij emphasized that this project is not limited to the construction of a mosque alone, but also includes the establishment of an attached school aimed at serving all members of the local community, Muslims and Christians alike. This reflects Libya’s approach to supporting community development and education within a framework of humanitarian cooperation and solidarity. For his part, High Commissioner Sheikh Anfali Kuti expressed his deep appreciation for this initiative, noting Libya’s historic role in supporting religious and charitable affairs across the African continent. He stated that this step represents a natural extension of fraternal cooperation and solidarity between the two peoples. This initiative embodies Libya’s commitment to strengthening religious and cultural cooperation with Guinea-Bissau and consolidating the foundations of dialogue and mutual understanding among peoples, thereby contributing to reinforcing the historical and humanitarian bonds between the two friendly nations.
