Benghazi – Thursday, March 5, 2026 As part of engaging with major national issues and contributing to enriching public dialogue on the economic and social challenges facing the Libyan state, and under the directives of H.E. the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan Government, Dr. Abdulhadi Al-Hweij, the Ministry’s Advisory Office organized the second political salon during the holy month of Ramadan, titled: “Rising Prices and Their Impact on the Social and Economic Structure in the State of Libya.” This salon comes within the framework of the national role undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in keeping pace with the economic transformations witnessed in the country, and contributing to the development of intellectual and scientific visions that support economic reform paths. This is achieved by opening spaces for dialogue among experts, academics, and decision-makers on priority national issues. The salon witnessed the participation of a distinguished group of experts, specialists, and academics in the fields of economics and social sciences. Several scientific and analytical papers were presented, most notably by Dr. Helmi Al-Qamati and Dr. Atiya Al-Fitouri, in addition to a number of scholarly interventions addressing the current state of the Libyan economy, the challenges associated with rising prices, and their impact on citizens’ living standards as well as on the country’s social and economic balance. Participants also discussed a range of key issues related to the causes of rising prices, including market imbalances, weak supply chains, and the impact of global economic conditions. They further examined the repercussions of these factors on social stability, as well as on development and reconstruction efforts currently underway in Libya. The sessions concluded with a set of scientific and practical recommendations aimed at supporting national efforts to address current economic challenges, enhance social stability, and create a more balanced and sustainable economic environment—thus reinforcing reconstruction efforts and meeting the aspirations of the Libyan people. The organization of these political salons comes in response to the government’s direction to launch a broad societal dialogue on national issues. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is actively contributing to this path by organizing a series of weekly political salons during the holy month of Ramadan, addressing various economic, social, and political topics, thereby strengthening the role of national institutions in leading public discourse and developing practical approaches to support economic reform and promote stability and development in Libya.
