Benghazi – Wednesday, 25 February 2026 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan Government received this morning an official delegation from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Libya, headed by H.E. Ambassador Major General Mohammad Habibullah, within the framework of strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Libya and Bangladesh, and enhancing mechanisms of joint coordination in various priority areas. The delegation was welcomed by a number of directors of the Ministry’s specialized departments, reflecting the Libyan side’s commitment to advancing bilateral relations toward broader horizons and establishing a partnership based on mutual interests and mutual respect. The meeting reviewed avenues of bilateral cooperation and built upon the outcomes of the Bangladeshi Ambassador’s previous visit in November 2025, which resulted in important understandings, most notably the organization of mechanisms for recruiting Bangladeshi workers in accordance with clear legal frameworks, as well as discussing procedural arrangements for opening a Consulate General of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in the city of Benghazi. This step would contribute to providing consular services to members of the Bangladeshi community and strengthening Bangladesh’s diplomatic presence in the eastern region. Both sides also discussed ways to develop regulatory frameworks governing the activities of the Bangladeshi community in Libya and to expand areas of cooperation in economic and service sectors, in line with the needs of the Libyan labor market and in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both countries. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of continuing coordination and regular consultations, and activating diplomatic communication channels in a way that enhances bilateral relations, supports efforts toward development and stability, and reflects the shared will of the leaderships of both countries to elevate cooperation to more effective and comprehensive levels.
