Benghazi – Monday | 16 February 2026 His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan Government, Dr. Abdulhadi Al-Hweij, received this morning at the Ministry’s headquarters His Excellency the Consul General of the Republic of Sudan, Mr. Abdulrahman Rahmatallah, accompanied by the Embassy Counselor, within the framework of strengthening bilateral coordination and following up on humanitarian and educational files related to the Sudanese community in Libya. The meeting addressed ways to support and ensure the continuity of Sudanese schools that have been opened in a number of Libyan cities, in a manner that guarantees the right of Sudanese community members to education and the stability of their academic path despite the exceptional circumstances their country is undergoing. The two sides discussed the arrangements for organizing secondary school certificate examinations for approximately 2,000 male and female students in the city of Benghazi, in coordination with the relevant authorities, reflecting the Libyan state’s commitment to continuing support for the educational process of the Sudanese brothers. The two parties also reviewed the latest humanitarian developments concerning the Sudanese community, emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination mechanisms to ensure the provision of decent living conditions and basic services. This reflects the deep-rooted historical and fraternal ties between the Libyan and Sudanese peoples, as well as the Libyan state’s approach based on humanitarian solidarity and regional responsibility. The Sudanese Consul General praised the role undertaken by the General Command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces and the Libyan Government in supporting stability and providing humanitarian facilities and services to the Sudanese community, commending the level of coordination and cooperation between the competent institutions in both countries. For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the Libyan Government attaches special importance to strengthening bilateral relations with Sudan and is keen to intensify consultation and coordination on various issues of mutual interest, in a manner that enhances regional stability, serves the common interests of the two brotherly peoples, and consolidates the approach of partnership and solidarity in addressing humanitarian and developmental challenges in the region.
