In line with Libya’s strategic orientation towards strengthening its African engagement and consolidating its role as a bridge for communication and cooperation among the peoples of the continent, and in implementation of the directives of His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Abdelhadi Al-Huweij, regarding the monitoring of African communities and addressing their concerns, a meeting was held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Benghazi, dedicated to discussing the situation of the Ghanaian community and the challenges faced by its members. The meeting was attended by His Excellency Ambassador Abdel Salam Al-Ruqai’i, Director of the African Affairs Department, Mr. Wael Makhlouf, Acting Director of the Consular Affairs Department, and Counselor Mohamed Al-Arfi, alongside the head of the Ghanaian community, Mr. Francis Adjei, and Mr. Eric Kojo, the accredited representative from the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana, as well as several community members and representatives of the relevant ministry departments. During the meeting, participants emphasized that attending to the situation of African communities falls within Libya’s vision to enhance South-South cooperation and consolidate the principles of African solidarity, in line with the historical and social relations linking Libya with the countries of the continent. Several issues were discussed, including residency procedures and various legal and social aspects affecting community members, with deliberations on mechanisms to address these challenges and facilitate their situation in coordination with the relevant national authorities, ensuring the protection of their rights and promoting their stability within Libyan society. Participants agreed to continue joint coordination to monitor the issues raised and address them in accordance with the applicable legal and regulatory frameworks, thereby reinforcing Libya’s position as a supportive environment for coexistence and African cooperation. At the conclusion of the meeting, representatives of the Ghanaian community expressed their deep appreciation for the attention of His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to their affairs, praising the role played by the Libyan state in supporting African communities and enhancing their presence within a framework of mutual respect and joint cooperation.
