Benghazi – Sunday, 8 February 2026 In implementation of the instructions of His Excellency Dr. Abdulhadi Al-Huweij, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation participated in the event commemorating International Greek Language Day, organized by the Consulate General of the Hellenic Republic in Benghazi, at the premises of the Greek community (European School). The Ministry was represented at the event by Dr. Jamil Bououden, Director of the European Affairs Department; Mr. Adel Al-Farsi, Director of the Benghazi Protocol Office; and Mr. Wael Makhlouf, Acting Director of the Consular Affairs Department, alongside several ministry officials and staff. The event also saw the participation of members of the House of Representatives, representatives of several countries accredited to Libya, as well as prominent academic and cultural figures. The event included an academic lecture titled “The Greek Language in Libya”, delivered by Dr. Angeliki Siggoro, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of the Aegean. In her presentation, she highlighted the historical and cultural presence of the Greek language in Libya and its role in fostering cultural and civilizational interaction between the Libyan and Greek peoples throughout various historical periods. The participation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in this event reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting cultural initiatives and promoting cultural diplomacy, contributing to the strengthening of friendship and cooperation, as well as the promotion of dialogue and mutual understanding between Libya and friendly nations.
