Benghazi – Wednesday, 4 February 2026 As part of the official visit of the Ambassador of the Republic of Niger to the city of Benghazi, His Excellency conducted a field tour that included a number of national landmarks and development projects. The tour was attended by the Director of the General Protocol Department, Mr. Bassem Al-Suwei’i, Adviser Mohammed Al-Arfi, and a liaison officer representing the Department of African Affairs. The Ambassador began his visit by touring the Mausoleum of the Sheikh of Martyrs, Omar Al-Mukhtar, where he was briefed on the national and historical symbolism embodied by this landmark and its deeply rooted significance in the collective memory of the Libyan people. His Excellency expressed his profound appreciation for the sacrifices made by the Libyan people in their struggle for freedom and independence. The tour also included a visit to Benghazi International Stadium, where the Ambassador expressed his admiration for this modern sports facility, praising the efforts exerted in its completion. He commended the role of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, under the supervision of Engineer Belqasem Khalifa, in implementing major development projects. His Excellency affirmed the high quality of the completed works, the efficiency of national competencies, and the rapid pace of implementation, considering Benghazi International Stadium a successful model of modern reconstruction projects and a clear reflection of the urban renaissance witnessed by the city of Benghazi. The Ambassador noted that the ongoing efforts in reconstruction and development across the city reflect a genuine determination to advance Benghazi’s progress and enhance its standing at both the national and regional levels.
