Benghazi – Wednesday, 3 February 2026 The Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation received, this morning, a delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines to Libya, headed by His Excellency the Chargé d’Affaires, Mr. Roderickos Atenisa, within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the two friendly countries. The delegation was received by the Director of the Asia and Australia Department, Mr. Haitham Al-Kaib; the Director of the Protocol Office in Benghazi, Mr. Adel Al-Farsi; the Head of the Ports Section at the Protocol Department; and the Attaché at the Asia and Australia Department, Mr. Younes Al-Barghathi. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the course of Libyan–Philippine relations spanning more than five decades, praising the role played by the Philippine community in supporting Libya’s development and reconstruction efforts across various sectors. Discussions also addressed ways to develop joint cooperation and follow up on existing agreements between the two countries, as well as exploring prospects for building a future partnership in economic and developmental fields, in addition to arranging mutual visits in the coming period. The two sides further discussed mechanisms for regulating the recruitment of Philippine labor to Libya in accordance with legal frameworks and approved regulations, within the context of ongoing efforts to lift the ban on the deployment of Philippine workers. The importance of opening a Philippine Consulate General in the city of Benghazi was also discussed, in light of the growing number of members of the Philippine community. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of continuing coordination and consultation to strengthen bilateral relations and develop areas of joint cooperation, in a manner that serves the interests of the two friendly peoples.
