Coordination Meeting to Discuss Cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Benghazi

Benghazi – Thursday | 29 January 2026 A coordination meeting was held bringing together the Director of the Benghazi Protocol Office, Mr. Adel Al-Farsi; the Head of the Ports Section at the General Protocol Department, Mr. Mohammed Al-Sharif; the Head of the ICRC Sub-Delegation, Mr. Irini; and the ICRC representative, Ms. Najat Al-Raei. During the meeting, a number of issues of mutual interest were discussed. Mr. Irini reviewed the efforts of the International Committee of the Red Cross in providing humanitarian assistance to displaced Sudanese nationals, affirming the continuation of humanitarian work in accordance with the approved plans. The Head of the ICRC Sub-Delegation also requested the submission of a quarterly plan outlining the delegation’s operational mechanisms, particularly with regard to the entry and exit of local and international staff, in a manner that contributes to strengthening coordination and joint organization. Mr. Irini further noted that a training course on international law is scheduled to be held on 9 February, in addition to the ICRC’s intention to hold a meeting with the House of Representatives in the coming period, within the framework of enhancing institutional cooperation. At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants agreed on the ICRC’s commitment to notifying the General Protocol Department of any changes in the number of staff, whether local or international, in order to enhance transparency and administrative organization.
