Benghazi – Thursday, 22 January 2026 The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan Government, Dr. Abdulhadi Al-Hweij, received on Thursday morning at the headquarters of the Protocol Department at the Ministry’s General Office in Benghazi, His Excellency the Consul General of the sisterly Kingdom of Morocco, Mr. Saeed Benkirane, accompanied by his Deputy, in the presence of the Director of the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Adel Al-Farsi. The meeting discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between Libya and the Kingdom of Morocco in various fields of mutual interest, with emphasis on the importance of facilitating visa issuance procedures. This would contribute to enabling Libyan citizens to pursue education, employment, trade, business, and other purposes, and would open broader prospects for strengthening cooperation between the two brotherly countries. For his part, the Consul General of the Kingdom of Morocco affirmed his country’s keenness to provide the best consular services, stressing the importance of strengthening relations of cooperation and mutual understanding. He also praised the security and stability currently witnessed in Libya, considering it a fundamental factor in supporting investment opportunities and enhancing commercial and economic cooperation between the two countries, thanks to the efforts of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces. During the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation congratulated the sisterly Kingdom of Morocco on the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament. He affirmed that despite the Moroccan national team’s misfortune in the final match, the Kingdom of Morocco succeeded in winning the organizational challenge through its high level of professionalism and outstanding capability in hosting major sporting events. This was evident in the quality of facilities and advanced logistical capabilities, which received wide praise at both the African and international levels, and reflected Morocco’s honorable image as one of the leading Arab, Maghreb, and African countries in organizing regional and international events.
