Benghazi – Wednesday, 21 January 2026 In a landmark step recorded for the first time in more than seventy years, the city of Benghazi today witnessed the official opening of an office affiliated with the Spanish Consulate, dedicated to providing a wide range of consular services. These include services related to study, employment, tourism, and medical treatment, in addition to other related consular services. The opening of this office comes in implementation of the instructions of the Prime Minister of the Libyan Government, Dr. Osama Hammad, aimed at bringing services closer to Libyan citizens and legally resident foreigners, within the framework of a policy of proximity and improving the quality of consular services. This event reflects the security stability and institutional organization currently experienced by cities and regions under the jurisdiction of the Libyan Government, thanks to the efforts exerted by the Libyan Arab Armed Forces. At the same time, it embodies the positive development of bilateral relations between Libya and the Kingdom of Spain, as two friendly countries bound by relations of cooperation and mutual respect. As of today, applicants wishing to obtain a Schengen visa from the Kingdom of Spain are required to submit their applications and complete all procedures through the accredited office that was officially inaugurated this afternoon, in the presence of His Excellency the Spanish Consul, Mr. Manuel Payena Pedrosa. It is worth noting that the office is located at Al-Jawhara Mall, in the Sidi Hussein area, in the city of Benghazi.
