Benghazi – Saturday, 17 January 2026 The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan Government, Dr. Abdelhadi Al-Hweij, received today in the city of Benghazi His Excellency the Italian Consul General, Mr. Francesco De Luigi, on the occasion of the conclusion of his consular mission. The meeting addressed the bilateral relations of cooperation between the State of Libya and the Italian Republic, as well as ways to strengthen and develop them in various fields of mutual interest, in a manner that serves the shared interests of the two friendly countries. During the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the efforts exerted by the Italian Consul General throughout his tenure in Benghazi and his positive role in supporting communication channels and enhancing cooperation between the two sides. In this context, His Excellency presented him with the Shield of the Libyan Government and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in recognition of his efforts and contributions to strengthening bilateral relations. For his part, the Italian Consul General expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the cooperation and facilitation he received, which contributed to the success of his mission, commending the level of coordination and joint work during his term of office. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides affirmed their shared commitment to continuing to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Libya and Italy, in a way that serves mutual interests and reflects the depth of the historical ties between the two friendly peoples.
