Benghazi – Thursday, 1 January 2026 H.E. the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan Government, Dr. Abdulhadi Al-Hweij, received this evening at the Ministry’s headquarters in the city of Benghazi a number of Members of the House of Representatives, namely MP Muftah Al-Shaari, MP Abdul Nasser Al-Naas, and MP Mohamed Douma. The meeting addressed a number of issues of mutual interest, foremost among them the importance of expediting the amendment of Law No. (2) of 2001 concerning the regulation of diplomatic and consular service, in a manner that keeps pace with developments and contributes to improving institutional performance, as well as enhancing the effectiveness of diplomatic and consular work in service of the national interest. In this context, the Members of the House of Representatives commended the integrated efforts exerted by the General Command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, the Libyan Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the Crisis Cell in following up on the situation of the detained Libyan youths, praising the effective coordination that resulted in their safe return to the homeland. The meeting also provided an opportunity for the Members of the House of Representatives to review the annual outcome of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s activities for the year 2025, in addition to the main outlines of the Ministry’s action plan for 2026. They expressed their full support for the Ministry’s efforts and affirmed their pride in its pivotal role in supporting Libyan foreign policy and strengthening national legitimacy.
